Is it a bug in Google Search?

I have been noticing a problem with Google search for some time now. I have observed that Google gives a link to Chrome web browser, even when I search for something else. I have tried the following keywords:

  • download skype
  • download firefox
  • download flash player
  • get skype
  • get flash player
Each page comes with a sponsored link that carries the relevant text, for instance ‘Skype’ and ‘Firefox’ for the first to search keywords above, respectively. But the actual reference behind the text is not correct. It always points to http://www.google.com/chrome/. Here are a few screen shots:

Is it a bug(or is it intentional)?

I guess it is intentional. they want you to use chrome and then download the plug-ins of these applications you searched for. anyway’s it’s an advertisement and not actually a search result.

Thats right. But different text and reference in the ad surprise me. Specially if its from a giant like Google…

Actually the central idea of this post is the last sentence. Its sarcastic. That’s not a bug for sure. People say Microsoft is cheap because they copy innovations by other people. How about Google promoting their browser (mis)using names of Microsoft’s Skype and Adobe’s Flash Player. I think that’s “cheap”. Imagine how silly it looks when I try to download Skype, click this link and end up on Chrome download page, while I was still using Chrome for this activity :-s.
